Football Is Finally Here…A Very Unique Offer To Followers..!!

The Baseball season was nothing short of a disaster….We tried and tried but could never get a handle on baseball 2011 and as a result suffered our 2nd losing season in 19 years…After winning continously for so long, you start to become somewhat complacent, expecting to win all the time. It’s a rude awakening and a jolt back to reality, that this is in fact sport betting, a form of “gambling” in which anything can and eventually will happpen…

Many of you have been extremely kind to me during this period, offering many excuses for the losing season, most of you contributing it to my heart attack in December..I would like to think that was the case, but in all honesty I can’t say that except for a two week recuperating and resting period, I was still doing all the same things handicapping i did before the heart attack.

I have however dug deeply into a possible cause, and I do believe I have found it. You see I have ruled out the heart atttack as the excuse or cause because we did not have a real good basketball season either, (it was a winner however) and last football season although it was a winner was still below our normal performance levels.

To be a consistent winning handicapper, you must put in the time, effort, dedication to find the value to beat the book and win wagers. When you start to take time and effort away from the handicapping process, you will begin to suffer the consequences. This I believe is the real story as to what has happened to my performance the last 12 months.

I initiated a blog, a newsletter, a facebook fanpage, a twitter account and a new mail program..well, bottom line is that focusing that much attention to writing articles for a blog, writing a daily newsletter, posting on facebook, posting on my fan page, posting on my facebook sport talk page, writing articles for the newsletter, updating the website etc etc…has created the lack of performance by taking time and focus away from the actual handicapping process.

Many of my competitors have blogs, newsletters, fanpages, radio shows, tv shows, magazines etc….but the big difference here is that most of them have a staff of 10 to 30 or more people….I work alone…I have no staff no salespeople no handicappers. Trying to compete for the market through these various marketing and promotional tactics, I have found is just simply impossible for one person.

I will continue to have a blog and a newsletter and a facebook fanpage, but they will be updated and posted only when there is something important and will not be on a regimented time schedule….when i have time I will post.

Starting out this football season I am 100% focused and concentrating on Handicapping…!!! You have noticed that I have not been posting baseball for the past two weeks, your all probably saying thanks for that…I have been diligently working the football opening weeks in both college and NFL.

The lack of response to my Members Early Bird football season special was not surprising. Nobody wants to follow one who is not winning, and I of course have not been winning. I still have never had a losing football season and I feel confident that we will again have a good profitable football season…No guarantees of course but I am confident.

Monday Night Football…San Francisco @ Arizona….
This certainly isn’t one of your more classic Monday night matchups when you have two 3-7 teams facing off. San Fran is coming off their first shut out home loss since 1977 losing last week 21-0 to Tampa Bay. Arizona suffered their 5th consecutive defeat in their loss to Kansas City last week. Both these teams are underachieving this season. The 49′ers were touted as being the division west champs and Arizona was also picked by many to win the division…Despite being 3-7 they are both only 2 games out of first place, however, no team in the history of the NFL has ever started 3-7 and went on to make the playoffs. San Francisco seems to like the “monday night lights” at they are 3-0 in the past 3 years and 23-9 since 1992. Arizona is 0-2 the past 3 years and 2-4 since 1992. Arizona’s home games are 4-0 over the total this season averaging 55.9 points per game, while the 49er’s road games are averaging only 38.2.

Arizona is allowing the most points in the NFL this season, giving up an average of 29 per game and 398 total yards…their offense isn’t scoring much, but they do have 8 non-offense TD’s this year including two kickoff returns. 5 off the Card’s 10 opponents have scored 31 or more points and 2 have gone over 40. One might think that the 49er’s should come out and run the ball right down the Card’s throats with Frank Gore against the 28th ranked run defense, however Gore only managed 23 yards last week against the 31st ranked run defense.

I am sure that the Monday Night Football producers when they scheduled this game, expected these two teams to be at the top of their divisions and that this would be a very entertaining and meaningful game….Wrong! From a handicapping standpoint, there isn’t much you can find in the way of stats and trends to lean either way, what little edge there is has to go the way of San Francisco…Let’s say hmmmm…. 21-17

Monday Night Football…Pittsburgh @ Cincinnati

This is a very tough game for me to handicap. There are a lot of conflicting trends and history situations going against the actual current performance and statistical data. The Steelers are 8-1 ATS the last 9 trips to Cincy and 5-2 overall the last 7 games. Coach Tomlin appears to soak up the spotlight as he is 5-0 on Monday night appearances and the Steelers have outscored their opponents 115-43 in those 5 games. However they are only 1-6 as road favorite of 3+ in the last 7 situations.

The Bengals were highly touted as superbowl contenders this season with the likes of Owens and Ochochinco, but they have dropped their last 4 and are currently in last place in the division 3 games out. They had better get their passing game in order tonight, because they will be facing the best rush defense in the NFL…The Steelers are allowing only 58.9 yards per game on the ground, far and away the best as the second best is the Chargers allowing over 80 per game. On the other side of the coin, the Bengals have given up nearly 140 yards in each of their last 3 games…Mendenhall has to be licking his lips in anticiapation. The Steelers are not forgetting that they were swept last year by the Bengals and are certainly up to getting some revenge. Steelers defense has allowed over 20 points in a game only once this season and are averaging allowing only 14.5 per game despite the fact that they are giving up over 265 yards per game throught the air…this however is due to the fact that opponents know they cant run against them, so they are passing a lot more than usual.

Statistically this looks like a win for the Steelers, but covering a TD spread (currently at 6.5) on the road against a team that does have the potential of putting points on the board can be risky. During Cincy’s four game losing streak the average margin of loss was only 5.25 points and the most was 8. This will be the Steelers 3rd straight road game and they are coming off a lackluster road performance losing to the Saints last week. My rationale tells me that the Steelers should cover, but my instincts are telling me otherwise…maybe best to just say off the game…The total is also tough to handicap for the same reasons as above.

If I have to make a choice in this game, I would look at taking the points with the Bengals and playing the Over 41. The Steelers defense is susceptible to the pass and the Bengals will surely be going to the air tonight and not challenge the best rush defense in the league.

Be Careful…Don’t overreact to weather related Line Movements….This is the time of year where the astute sport bettor can really take advantage of the value in line movements.Injuries start to pile up and the weather starts to become a factor which normally will create line movements throughout the NFL and CFB schedule especially the totals lines. In most cases the general public wil “overreact” to an injury announcement or a inclement weather report assuming that because there may be some snow on the ground, the scoring will be lower and the underdog will have an advantage to the spread.

Just because there is bad weather predicted does not always mean that it will effect the outcome or the scoring of a game, or more importantly effect it to the extent of what the line movement is indicating. A wet, snowy or windy condition will not always effect the scoring of a game where the teams are primarily running teams. Wind and a wet ball may effect the passing game to some extent but you must bear in mind that the receiver and ball carriers know in advance where they are going and can plan his move or when to make his cut, while the defender has to act much more quickly and is more prone to slipping on wet or snowy surface. Wind will definetely be the biggest factor for passing teams, especially those that rely on the big plays down field. However, going to the short passing game can be a huge advantage for receivers gaining yards after catch for the above mentioned reasons.

When there is a snow condition, the general public will invariably drive the total and the side lines down. A 45 total could go to 42 or ever 40 when in fact the condition may have little or no effect on the outcome based on the teams that are playing. I once saw O.J. rush for nearly 200 yards in a game that they had to remove 12 inches of snow from the field at game time and use heaters to melt the ice.

So before you jump on a line movement because of a weather condition, take some time to analyze the style and strengths of the teams in question and ask whether the conditions should be considered. Taking a moment to look closely can put some extra units in your bankroll.

Florida is 2-4. Rutgers has won 3 games on the season and S. Florida has 4 wins. Rutgers has done well when installed as a road dog over the previous 4 years, racking up a 9-2 record in this situation (0-2) this year. Their offense is near anemic when on the road this year, as they are averaging only 208 total yards per game and 3.3 yards per play. They allow opponents 6.5 yards per play. Rutgers is 3-0 ATS the last 3 meetings and 4-0 SU in the last four vs S. Florida beating them handily last year 31-0. This was the first shut out loss in USF 13 year history, which I am sure S. Fla has not forgotten and is seeking huge revenge. This doesn’t fare well for the Scarlet Knights as they are 3-12 as a dog facing a team in revenge. However, S. Florida is 0-5 ATS when at home vs an sub .500 opponent and when in revenge.

South Florida is coming off a upset win last week over Cincinnati 38-30 as a 7.5 point underdog. Before the 38 points last week, they managed a total of 15 points in their previous two games. Which offense will show up this week? S. Florida’s play so far this season doesn’t seem to me to warrant them being a 10.5 point favorite. The revenge factor could be adding to this line, but just isn’t enough for me to lay 10.5 points. I would lean toward taking the points in this one.

No big surprise for Uconn’s loss as they were a road dog at Louisville, but W. Virginia’s loss was surprising as they were upset on their home field by Syracuse 19-14. W. Virginia is 5-1 ATS and 6-0 SU against Uconn in their last 6 meetings. The Mountaineers have improved on their 22 points against average of a year ago as they are allowing only 13.2 points per game so far this season. Despite two losses, no one has scored over 21 points against them.

There are some conflicting trends in this one as Connecticut is 6-1 when installed as a 3.5 to 10 point underdog, and 4-0 following two SU losses over the past 3 years. There are some strong trends favoring an “over” play in this game. Connecticut is 14-3 to the over when playing on 6 days or less rest, 10-2 when at home and 15-5 ATS when the line is between 42.5 and 49.0 over the past 3 years. and 8-1 at home when the line is 42.5 to 49.0. However QB could be a problem for Connecticut without Endres. The offense could not manage even a field goal last week at Louisville. There are some conflicting reports as to who is going to be at QB tonight for the Huskies. Starting QB Corey Endres is out for the season and earlier in the week it was speculated that Michael Box would start and most recently they have announced that Zach Frazier will start. Frazier is a senior with starting experience. I have very little value to the line in this one as I make the line W. Virginia -5.0. The total is probably the way to go if you need to make a wager on this one.

Two big stories that have the media humming over this game, the return of Randy Moss and the re-emergence of LaDanian Thomlinson. Most feel that the Moss/Favre connection is all the Vikings need to get to the post season…hmmm, maybe half that statement is right, but Favre had better pick it up. The way he is playing right now, he shoudl have put more consideration into retiring.

I was not a believer in the Jets this season, in fact I recommended a future play that they wouldn’t win 9 games, I am biting tongue right now as I am rapidly becoming a believer that they in fact are for real…LT is the difference in this team being in the playoffs or just remaining a one dimensional defensive team. Looking at tonights matchup I have to lean toward this being a high scoring game. When I say high, I mean like over 40.0. The Viking game total average of 27 per game is very uncharacteristic and certainly will not keep that average very long…The Jets have been putting up some points this season. They are averaging 32.3 ppg in their last 3 games and the game totals in those 3 games was 49.3.

I don’t expect any drop off in offensive production from the Jets tonight but I do see a marked upward swing on offense for the Vikings. My old crystal ball is telling me that we see a 28-23 game tonight, which means of course the total goes over the posted 38.0

Considering myself an outstanding handicapper and a “smart money” sport bettor, I have to say that this season of NFL has been nothing short of embarrassing for me. In talking with some of my peers, I found that most are experiencing the same problems. For those who are on the winning side, I congratulate you and hope your success continues, however, the “Joe’s” are heading for a big fall and it won’t be long for the “Smart money” players to once again prevail. Although ESPN’s John Claytons recent article isn’t geared toward sport bettor’s, he sums up some of the Bizarre very nicely… Article

It’s been a very unusual start to the NFL season as many teams are playing above or below their projections. Eleven underdogs covered the spread and there were 8 upsets in week 3, that’s 50% of all games resulted in upset wins. Surprisingly we find Kansas City, Chicago and Pittsburgh the only 3-0 teams heading into week 4. The Chiefs and Bears are certainly suprises as both were projected to finish last in their respective divisions. Pittsburgh has to be checked as a surprise as they are doing it without their pro-bowl starting QB.

The five teams currently at 0-3 are not really surprising with the exception maybe of the 49er’s who have been touted this year as a favorite to win their division. Buffalo, Cleveland, Carolina and Detroit are not surprising, at least in my opinion. Carolina has had QB problems with injuries which certainly has added to their slow start. Minnesota and Dallas sitting at 1-2 could be considered surprising, but I expect Dallas to be in the hunt at the end. Minnesota is a big question mark. I believe Favre should have retired, he is not playing anywhere near his form of past years. I expect the Steelers to reamain as front runners, but the Bears and Chiefs will fall back to reality before it’s all over.

Based on the first 3 weeks, teams that should be taken seriuously are the Titans, Eagles and Houston, teams that may not have been projected as contenders, but could be in the hunt all season. A strange stat is that Arizona is -29 net points this year but have a 2-1 record, this of course is a result of their 41-7 loss to Atlanta in week 2. Watch for things to start to get back to normal in the NFL very quickly as bye week’s begin this week which will give some of these teams time to regroup and others to possibly lose their momentum.

Of the undefeated’s, Kansas City has a bye week so they will remain perfect at least until week 5, Pittsburgh will have a struggle with the Ravens, and the Bears will most likely lose their first game at NY Giants this week. The only winless teams that I see to have a chance of getting their first win would be San Francisco at Atlanta and that is certainly no given.
