Final Week Of NFL…Easy Picking?
Is Handicapping the final week of the NFL easier or tougher?
Going into the final week of the NFL, all the division titles are wrapped up and only a couple of games have any meaningful playoff implications. So, how do you handicap the schedule..?…Very carefully.
First you can just about ignore the season statistical data and power ratings. Many teams are emotionally letdown, some are looking to be spoilers, some are resting their starters and even some are jockeying for a better position in the draft…However, that being said, this is a week you can pick up some units. The key to winning in the NFL this week is ….READING!
By going to the teams home pages, local newspapers and be able to read between the lines, you can get some good hard core and pertinent info on how the coaches are approaching the game. This is similar to handicapping preseason games where the game plan is much more important than the statistics…

Bad Weather Handicapping
Bad Weather Doesn’t Always Mean Low Totals
This is the time of year in the NFL that you have to watch the weather reports very carefully when handicapping the schedule…You can usually find at least one game on the schedule with an inclement weather report that you can get some big value…The public is prone to driving the total down as soon as a bad weather prediction is published.
I believe the bad weather condition will effect the outcome of the “side” play more often than the total…A predominant passing team playing in rain or snow is not effected all that much as they have an advantage of the receivers and ball carriers knowing their route and being able to plan their cut or movement in advance and preparing their footing for the condition..The defense has to react much more quickly and are more prone to losing their footing than does the receiver or running back. This is a important match up for both teams today, teams that are going in opposite directions…The Packers have reeled off 5 consecutive wins, while the Steelers after a 5-2 start have now dropped 5 in a row and they are fighting for their playoff lives at 6-7 on the season….

Who’s Going To The Rose Bowl..?
Oregon St / Oregon…Winner Goes to the Rose Bowl…
Tonight’s Pac 10 matchup comes down to the winner going to the Rose Bowl when #16 8-3 Oregon State travels the short distance to meet rival #8 9-2 Oregon. Oregon State will be looking for some huge revenge tonight as they haven’t forgotten the beating they took last year when the Ducks put up 65 points against them with a upset 65-38 win. The Beavers needed the win to advance to the Rose Bowl. It was the worst defeat since coach Mike Riley tood over the reins. OSU was a two point home favorite in that game. Tonight the tables are turned as Oregon is a 9.5 home favorite.
